Need help to date this Freddie Grubb Track Path

Hello everybody,

this is my Freddie Grubb Track Path. Bought the frame two years ago and built up the bike with (mostly) period components. It's my daily commuter and sometimes I use it for audaxing. Phantastic bike but there is a big problem: I can't date the frame. I guess it has been built in the middle of the 50's but I'm not sure. Frame Nr on left rear dropout is 5247. Matching Nr on steerer. Head badge and transfers seem to original. Also original colour scheme but painting has been repaired sometime by hand. Is here someone how can tell me the exact date of building?

Kind regards!
Ralph

How were you able to build it with period components, if you didn't know what period?*

(*Sorry, just being snarky! )

Seriously, early to mid 50's looks about right to me, but I doubt I know any more than you.

Cool bike! Nice build. Headbadge points to '52-63 I think. The serial # makes me think 1952 but that's just guess.

Thanks for all the answers and jokes ... Unfortunately, not really new knowledge. Maybe a few more details.

It is a 24'' frame, 73 degree head and seat angle, round fork blades, eyelets for mudguards. All this speak for a Freddie Grubb Comet Road Track as shown in the 1956 catalogue

Head badge speaks for a (Holdsworth) year after 1952

Frame number speaks for a year before 1955 (compare https://www.classiclightweights.co.uk...rubb55-rb.html

an https://www.lfgss.com/thread38672.html

Does anyone know when Holdsworth introduced the Freddie Comet? Or does anyone know the numbering system in the early Holdsworth era?

Are you a member of the Classic Rendezvouz google group? There is a higher level of expertise there, I think, than on this list. If you haven't already, I suggest you post your bike, and your questions, there.

Oh so sweet!

I've been lusting after a Pre-latin series Hetchins for years....Then I let a 24.5" (my size) Super Special slip through my hands because of a crappy re-paint...arrghhhh! Love your daily rider!

Are you running new cables on the Resilions? I ask because I've got set in need of refurbishment and have been hesitant due to the complexity of the cable.

Gah! These british repaints.... It's the original cable. But the complete brake was an art in itself. I built it from refurbished spares and parts of two Resilions. In the end it didn't work satisfying. Meanwhile I've changed the Resilion with an early Burlite rear brake. Pics will coming soon.
