1985 Raleigh Prestige Question
Hey guys i am new here. Hope this is the right thread. I need some new hoods for my 85 raleigh prestige. Anyone know where i could get some? They don't have to be original just ones that would fit well. Thanks! And preferably made for that specific model.

How about some pics of the brake levers and the name of the manufacturer. The same make of gum rubber hoods (which is probably what you have) can be hard to impossible to track down. Something like this might work for you:

Hoods, and by hoods I assume you mean the rubber thing that goes over the brake lever, are specific to the type of brake lever, not the bike itself. If you know the make of the brake lever you should be able to find replacement hoods. Or you could post a picture here, I'm sure someone will recognize them and guide you in the right direction.

If original, they're Aero Gran Comp levers. No one makes hoods that will fit, Ebay is your best option.

Show us a picture of the bike, that way you will bet better advice. Without seeing, I would go for a set of Shimano 105 levers/hoods. I got a set of used Shimano 105 black aero hood/levers on mine.. http://www.cehoward.net/prett2.jpg Here is white hood/leverset on Ebay.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-105-...item20d25c4000 |

All the 1985 Raleigh RacingUSA Series have the same look. They made 4. The Prestige, The Competition, The Super Course, and the Grand Prix. Post of a pic of your Prestige, and most likely it can be with very little parts and money be like the one I have or better.. |

It is the SAME as yours. It is a 1985 Raleigh Prestige, the top of line in 1985. The drive train is stock, handlebar stock. I changed the wheels and tires, seat, and those Shimano 105 brake lever and hoods.

Brakes are original? And man i am at a loss of words! That is a nice bike!!!! I feel like these old bikes out perform all the newer 2500$ bikes. And guess how much i got mine for! 30$ i stole it basically.
Post of a picture..Like I say that way you will get more advice on how to go and what to get.. As I said before in my last post, they only made the Raleigh RacingUSA Prestige in 1985, the other 3 in the group are alike with lessor components.. I need the 85 Super Course and I will have the whole set of four.. Yes, you did get a deal for $30... :thumb: I paid $50 for the 1985 Grand Prix, and I must say, after some fixing, it looks better than my 1985 Prestige that I just showed you... ;).. Like I said, the addiction is strong in this forum, and catching too.. ;) |

Last question i promise :)
what kind of rims do you have on that? And can you post a pic of the grand prix if you get a chance? Thanks :)! On the wheels, off Ebay for about $129 shipped. The wheels on the Grand Prix which I like better, cost about $90 shipped off Ebay.. Ha, showing you a picture of my Grand Prix, pardon the talk, but you will get wet in the pants looking at it.. ;) Notice how the Grand Prix, which is at the bottom of RacingUSA Series has the same profile as the Prestige.. Here is the Grand Prix in the as $50 purchase.. http://www.cehoward.net/gpebay1.jpg Here is the same bike with some fixin.. ;) It has Shimano 105 brake/lever hoods too. http://www.cehoward.net/gpyy56.jpg |
