Info needed on old Ferrari...
 

Can anyone shed any light on this old thing? Says ferrari on the frame but I have no idea what it is or anything about it...

Somebody probably just slapped on some decals on a generic racing bike from the lower end of the range. Perhaps even a rattle can repaint, though it's a bit hard to see on your pic. The fork doesn't look original either. Looks like a parts bin special. If it fits you you can probably make a nice beater ride out of it.

That's all I'm hoping for tbh, although paint looks original and so does the 'Ferrari' sticker...

Rides nice but needs work, tyres and cables need replacing and a good service....

there are other companies in italy using the ferrari name, I think I have even seen a bicycle with that name before.

Yeah, on a second look... Since Ferrari just means "from Ferrara", a nice, well populated region with a nice capital with the same name in Italy there are plenty of people (and thus companies) in Italy bearing the name.

Thanks man, definitely need help! I'm having it serviced today so that should tell me what parts need adjusting and what parts need replacing... Will need advice on what parts to use as replacements. I know it needs new tires, any recommendations??? (Cheap!)

Depending what kind of look you're going for, a new saddle and bar tape would look good. At the right price of course...

Yea I paid £90... Don't know if that's good or bad but it's lighter than any modern bike at double the price. Going to get bar tape replaced with service, and probably brake hoods and definitely cables as they're...

Had the cassette and chain replaced because gears were slipping but that's fine now.

Any other general repairs/parts I should be looking to replace soon? Thanks!

might need a new bottom bracket, but obviously that is something that can't the assessed via a photo. your LBS should look at that when servicing it.

It's worth it just being able to say you've got Ferrari! Looks good enough and you say it's light....all the better! Now, how about a picture of the derailleurs, brakes and crank? I think it's a cool find!

Stamped drpouts plus Durifort tubing typically equal an upper entry level, French frame. However, it does have an interesting component mix for a frame of this level. Probably late 1970s.

Sweet, I tried to work out that durifort sticker but was too worn for me to make sense of. I think it's had a lot of parts replaced so I have no idea what's original and what's been added...

Yes. TIRES.

There's a lot of Ferrari- and Porsche-branded stuff out there; sunglasses, sportswear, colognes, totebags, and even some sporting goods like bikes and tennis rackets. It's just stuff made by other companies and stuck with the iconic name to "leverage" the brand; make a little more money out of it. I have personally ridden a "Cadillac" bicycle. It even had properly working brifters.

This bike just got labeled Ferrari, not even the correct font... Which is now done as a digital typeface, kind of fun.

Yea I don't think it's anything to do with ferrari merchandise because the ferrari branding that is associated with the car manufacturer is different... Still telling everyone "I just bought a Ferrari" though lol.
