ID my bike game? Colnago/Campy 8 speed
My normal procedure for buying a bike is to do at the very least a mental "blueprint" so I know what I'm buying. I rolled the dice on my new Colnago and made the purchase on some shaky pics and a bad description. I figure that's the way I've landed on some of my best buys and I've got enough good deals that even if I overpaid on this one I'm OK with it. I plan to ride this one so dollars in/dollars out isn't as important. Plus I didn't have to get it shipped which is nice.
On to the bike!
I first saw it on Craigslist, the seller said it was 27 years old (not so sure about that) and he says it's a Master with Mirage components (not sure about that either). I contacted him about checking it out and he said it was on ebay so I pulled up the auction to see that the starting bid was less $ than his CL ad so I stalked it.
FWD 7 days, I beat out another bidder by $1.01 and ended up paying right at the same amount that was listed on CL.

I tend to think that it's a 94 Master with Record 8 speed, and someone has swapped out the crankset for an ugly triple...at least that's what I hope. I'm travelling right now but when I can get some more pics I'll post them up with better detail. Anyone care to play guess that part?
Frame/Fork - 94 Master with Gilco tubing, AD10 color? googled around and found this scan https://oli-roadworks.blogspot.com/20...atalogues.html
crankset - Mirage triple
f/r derailleur - Record 8 speed RD01RE/FD11SRE?
hubs - Record 8 speed freehub
headset - Record
Shifters - Record carbon 8 speed (EC22RE?)
seatpost - ? will need to get better pics
stem/bars - ITM eclypse/ITM bar
None of this really matters but I have fun doing this type of research and thought others might as well. Regardless of what it is I plan to swap out the saddle for my fav, put a Record or chorus double on it and ride the wheels off of it. It's not nice enough to be a wall hanger so it might as well get ridden

Oops, my link didn't go right to the catalog. If you click the link scroll about 1/2 way down the page to the Colnago frame catalog scan.

I agree that it's newer than 1986 considering it has internal cabling.

I took her for a 20 mile ride to see if I could find any hiccups and I'm happy to say it rode great! I gave it a little love, I don't think it had been cleaned for a while. It's not perfect but much better. I had some black tape and some skinwall tires laying around so I did a little de-blue and I also removed the inside ring on the triple crank and set the limit screws to run it as a double. Mucho more gooder.

It was an expensive week for buying bikes. Unfortunately I'm going to have to decide which one to sell. I don't have room for the 4 I currently own so either the carbon bike or one of these guys is going to have to find a new home. Tough call

I will, my carbon bike lacks character but it does ride really nice. I'm actually leaning towards keeping the Merckx. If I upgrade the RD and shifters to Dura Ace 10 speed I can share wheels with my carbon bike. The Merckx has some chips on the top tube but otherwise it's a 9/10 bike.
