Need help identifying my new purchase

Bought this Fixie on Craigslist and needed help on identifying it. I was told it was a 70's beach cruiser but from research it definitely does not have a beach cruiser frame. The unusual part is how the serial number is located on the head tube. Any help is greatly appreciated.

No idea I'm afraid, but I love the 'urban distressed' paint job - great patina.

You are going to need more pics than you are providing. Seat stay cluster, bottom bracket, rear drops, brake bridge. Looks like a Stronglight or Lightrace headset.

The fork crown and faux-lugged head tube say lowish-end 80's Japanese to me. I've seen that exact combination, but can't quite place where...

Unless there is a cartouche for the maker (or company that contracted to have it made) you may never know. I don't know about faux lugs, but I agree that fork crown and the huge brake bridge make me think this is lowerend model.

I hope you didn'r pay too much for this thing. Does it have a brake?
