Exage SIS DT shifter NOT shifting
Hi all, currently rebuilding a 1990 Giant Kronos for a friend. It is 6 speed Exage light action equipped. Cleaning, adjusting, new cables...RD works fine...FD...NOT so much. It does not seem to want to work in SIS or in Friction mode. DT Shifters. It has one click when pushed all the way forward. I cannot get the SIS/Friction ring to turn AT ALL. Lever works smoothly and moves the FD, but immediately downshifts when released....Grrrrrrrrr.....Any ideas? An exploded parts sheet just in case some little bit is missing? Will get some shots of the shift lever and parts shot and posted when I get a chance.

Still learning
Are the limit stop screws on the FD adjusted properly?
If the lever won't stay in the up position, then you need to tighten the DT retention nut.

FD moves freely, all the way up, and back down by itself...Spring works great! Have taken the shifter apart and put back together several times now...no gunk, no corrosion....Retention Nut is tight, but does not seem to add ANY friction to the lever, it just allows the FD to pull it back.

There is not an SIS ring on the FD lever, it should only be on the RD lever. 6 speed SIS was friction front, friction or index rear. If you have an SIS ring on both sides, someone kludged that lever together.

I was thinking the same thing, hopefully it was just reassembled incorrectly or is a bit loose.

Thanks all, I fiddled with it at lunchtime...and got it working in SIS mode...NO Friction....go figure! I had the cable too tight and it would not allow it to go far enough to "click" in. Loosened the cable some, and now it works...except in top gear, I have a little chain rub on the FD....guess I have to get it a little tighter without getting too tight. The limit screw WILL let it go further, enough to not rub. Indeed, SIS FD...weirdness! The little plastic ring does say SIS with a little arrow, and FRICTION with a little arrow....Exage Action.....1990......weird stuff....:-) SHIMANO A351
