Newbaum or Tressostar?
 

I just ordered a couple of rolls of black Newbaums last night, along with some brake hoods and end plugs. I thought I'd give the Newbaums a try. What do you think?

A little tire adhesive on the outside of the first curve from the stem helps, the adhesive on both now is less than it used to be.

Newbaums is thicker and American made. Can't go wrong!

I have black Newbaums on my bike after deciding to ry them for the first time last year, and I really like them. the amount of adhesive behind them are just right so any adjustments while wrapping is easily done. Can't go really wrong with any of the two brands quality-wise, but I agree that if you are in the US, why not try the locally made tape.

can't believe this is possible. i prefer something thicker than newbaum's, so i end up using fizik almost every time. i might try a cotton tape not specifically designed only for bicycles. there was a related thread on this recently with many mentions of hockey tape, though it was not actually hockey specific tape that peaked my interest.

Go with Newbaum, the roll is longer and won't leave you short on the wrap. That P O's me !

One thing I like about Tressostar is the plastic sleave that allows me to wet the cotten before I wrap, the N just has a cardboard one that gets mushed when you wet it.

Thanks to everyone in this thread! I haven't checked in for a few days and was beginning to wonder if I was being obsessive about the bar wrap on my '59 Girardengo, which is finished except for the wrap. I have some honey Brooks leather, but also just got in some gorgeous embossed nachurl linen.

Now I feel normally neurotic, again. Back to my old self--still sitting on the fence...

I used red Newbaums on my '82 Bottecchia, and it is the icing on the cake. Newer bikes of mine get the newer foam tape. But to me nothing looks more gorgeous than a vintage Hetchins with well-worn-in Brooks saddle and patinaed shellacked tape!

Newbaum, for me, good fit every time, nice color selction too.

Just ordered some maroon newbaum's to try shellacking to match that dark brown leather saddle I have my eye on.

First time using Newbaums on the Geoffrey Butler. The roll is at LEAST a foot longer, allowing you to wrap without worry, AND make a small piece for around the brake lever. With Tresso you have to be VERY frugal, and wrap edge to edge just to make it. I think I am pretty much done with Tresso, at the very least on wider/deeper drops.,,,,BD

Newbaums is not readily available in Europe I am afraid, at least not in Holland.
Maybe there is someone who already ordered it from the states or knows a good way of getting it in Europe ?

I got some red Neubaums recently. The extra length was pretty helpful. Also wanted to try it because it's American made. I like it.

You'd be surprised how many bike shops here go "huh?" or "what?" when you ask about it. Most shops have never heard of it, probably because cloth bar tape is beyond the scope of their mind. Too old school, in other words. I did locate ONE shop in Houston that carries at least the brown, and that's how I ended up with it on the Geoffrey Butler.,,,,BD

Thanks Shp4man! I was very pleased with how the bike turned out:D. In the before and after pics, it's hard to believe it's the same bike!
