Eddy Merckx experts

I just picked up this Eddy Merckx today off of CL listed as an "Eddy Merc". I believe it's a 1985 Corsa Extra based on the SLX tubing and the Z above the serial number. Any ideas on the year and Model? I purchased from the original owner who said he was a CAT 3 Racer back in the day and used it for Crits. He swapped out most of the original Campy for Dura-Ace and a Control tech

With SLX tubing I would suggest that it's a 'Corsa Extra' model. Year - I wouldn't have a clue but it looks like '85 would be very close. I love that particular colour scheme. I can see why you bought it.

thanks Gary! I think I need to review the Eddy Merckx thread to see if I can find any siblings.

I cant help with any info. But very nice looking score Vonruden. Gary is right about the attractive paint condition and color.
The stem has to go. :)

For sure on the stem. I already have a Cinelli stem, I also have a DuraAce stem that is too short (105 in case anyone wants to swap stems).

I think you are on the right track.

Btw Nice Merckx.

Glad I recently bought another as well.

Fun rides for sure.

I am doing my best to downsize, however nice ones my size keep popping up at good prices. My friends are starting to call me the bike whisperer.

You have the same knack for finding nice bicycles as Bibliobob, Aaron and so many others here have.

I pass on decent bicycles fairly often nowadays though.

There was a very nice Marnati I passed on a week or so ago, as I just don't need or want another road bike right now.

I did pick up the Merckx Alu Cross though, as I won't have a dedicated cross bike built until the season is well under way.

The Merckx is pretty much ready to race after my new tires show up in the mail.

Congrats on your nice new Merckx though. I am sure you'll figure out what to do with all of them eventually.

Or your wife will........ :)
