My guess would be Athena brakes

I would say Athena too. Not sure if these moved down to Veloce when the the Chorus Monoplanor moved to Athena.

They are certainly not Chorus.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but they sure look exactly like the Chorus brakes currently mounted on my Takara. With the exception of the barrel adjusters, that is. Mine have the original BA's with the white O-ring as opposed to the black.

identical. no one is sure so, although they are supposed to weigh differently.
very similar to Monoplanar by its shape, but dual plane.
lots of these on eBay are mislabeled as Monoplanars due to its similar shape + Campy's ever-confusing grouppo organizing logic.

Yes it does look similar to a Chorus brake, they are both silver, have black pads and are side pull brakes. However to the best of my knowledge the above brake was never a Chorus but rather Athena. When Chorus upgraded to dual pivot design in '94(?) the Monoplanor design was passed down to Athena then on to Veloce and so on as DPs were introduced in lower groups. The design of the Monoplanor changed a bit as it was made to a lower price point.

While the later Athena brakes (after the Monoplanor design trickled down) look like Chorus, I don't see how anyone can say these two brakes look alike.

i did understand there's a huge difference between monoplanar-look-like Athena and real monoplanar Chorus, indeed.
my point was, tho, some source referred that very same design of the Athena was also a part of Chorus grouppo for a certain period of time.
might well be a wrong info as well.

Thanks for all the replies! This is one of my brother's bikes. He recently moved to S. America, and asked that I put this up for sale for him. The majority of the bike is 9 speed Campy record. Other than the brakes (which I knew were not record, but wasn't certain what they were) and possibly the seatpost (and the FD, which is Chorus), I know what everything else is. If I could afford it, I would buy it myself as I spent some time last summer riding it (my brother had broken his back at work and wasn't riding it, so I borrowed it from him to see what all the fuss about this new-fangled indexing and Ergo levers was all about).
