Local Craigslist. 100 bucks. What is the word on these bikes? Never had a road bike before, know little about the older ones.

Jethro, I'm pretty familiar with Schwinn models, but that's one I've ever heard of. Were there any photos in the ad? Lots of sellers are pretty clueless and think any old bike is a Schwinn. It may have a Schwinn saddle of handlebar grips, so they think it's a Schwinn.

Edit - Googling, I've seen ads for Schwinn bikes with Sakae Road Champion handlebars, and the ads read "Schwinn Road Champion." Clueless.

If it's this one (https://littlerock.craigslist.org/bik/4053817895.html), its a very run of the mill lower-end bike. Nothing particularly nice about it.

This bike (https://northmiss.craigslist.org/bik/4013116959.html) is a far, far nicer bike... probably worth a couple hundred, but depending on the seller's knowledge perhaps could be scored for less.

If it is ( (https://littlerock.craigslist.org/bik/4053817895.html) and I am seeing that correctly, it has a welded on kickstand, and one-piece ashtabula crankset, chrome rims....I'd pass. It looks clean enough, but it will but over 30 pounds....mid-70's is my guess on the age.

I'm 100% certain that is a Continental (late '70s model) and the tires are "Road Champions."

Rather than the Le Tour that is mentioned above and the only bike on the AR CL listed as a Schwinn Road Champion?

Gotta LOVE Crlisters who call bikes by the name of the Shifting System, the fork, or the seat....

IIRC, "Le Tour" is also a part of the tire name. That is clearly not a Le Tour Schwinn.

The biggest give aways that it is a Continental are the crankset and the oval badge. The next is the chrome fork. The catalogs would narrow the date range that Continental used that specific fork. At the moment I don't feel like checking!

Hi

I just got the same bike from a friend after my old bike got stolen. It is a Red Schwinn Road Champion. I was wondering if there is any more info on the bike you have found out. One of bigger question is how do I put a water bottle holder on it? I find the bike rides fin not as good as my old bike, but ok. Changing gears is a little weird at first next to a stander bike today, but you get use to it.
