N+1 - Raleigh Professional

I just brought this home today. It's been sitting on CL for the last 3 days so I went to take a look.

It's a 1978 with all Campy Super Record. There are some paint chips but no dents and it needs a good cleaning. The tires and bar tape have to go and I'll replace the brake levers.

It took 3 days??? :-)

Your market is better than mine. But around here, the higher end the vintage bike is, the better the deals. And they tend to last a while.

That's a beauty!

Beautiful bike. Those record TT brake levers are very sought after. I've been looking for a pair for quite some time now.

Stevensb 09-08-13 05:57 PM

Very nice. I even like the blue tires.

Revracer 09-08-13 07:22 PM

Very nice find, congrats!

You don't happen to have a set of SR levers and a Black Brooks Professional saddle laying around do you?

mapleleafs-13 09-08-13 07:48 PM

Man, lucky you!, i've come across three of these bikes. None of them ever looked that good. On was in "rough" shape to me, so i pretty much gave it to devinfan, i have one right now that's been repainted red, i want one in a condition like yours so bad

I guess you know who to flog those off to :)

Congrats on a great score! Bike looks to be in fantastic condition, and I like that you're trying to round it out with the correct period saddle and brake levers. Wish I had a spare set of SR levers to pass along for this worthy project.

Good luck!

Beautiful. Looks like the previous owner was a rider, considering the "upgrades". I like it as it is, but a more period restoration would be nice too.

with the money gained by trading those modern bits, you can probably get period parts + consumables.

enjoy!

Just took a quick ride around the neighborhood and the bike rode great! Very smooth and responsive.:)

Now I'll tear it down and start the cleaning, etc.

Yes, the fork is just fine.

Kactus 09-11-13 12:38 PM

Have gotten the bike totally stripped down and all the parts cleaned.

The inside of the tubes look great... as soon as my order of Frame Saver arrives I can proceed!

Kactus 10-06-13 03:08 PM

I have the Raleigh put back together. I replaced the brake levers with SR levers and new Campy hoods, added the Brooks Professional saddle and new Bike Ribbon bar tape. I put on a new KMC chain and IRD freewheel. The wheels are NOS Mavic Championet du Monde tubulars with Vitorria Corsa SC tires.

I'm happy with the way it turned out... now if the weather will just stay nice for a few days I can put some miles on it!

Blue Belly 10-06-13 03:34 PM

Beautiful bike! Enjoy it for us!
