Early '70s (?) Motobecane Grand Touring
Just picked this up off of the auction site earlier today...can't wait to pick it up and chuck the horrible seat for a nice Ideale.... Would the Moto experts be able to approximate the year? The photos are from the seller, can't see a tubing sticker anywhere...hoping it's not gaspipe, but, truth be told, I probably couldn't tell anyway...

a grand touring without an on-frame derailleur hanger? even the super mirage models have one that i've seen. though maybe the early ones didn't have one.?.
and brazed cable guides? hmm. better check the catalogs for that blue paint too.

ok, could be a '75. came in blue that year. '74 had a derailleur hanger, but not '75. could be earlier than '74 too.

I was going to guess 74/75 as well. Check the date code on that rd when you get it. I cannot make out the down tube decals clearly, but they look like post 1972. Also, make sure to add it to Tmar's Motobecane database.

My guess would be 1973 based on the combination of Stronglight crankset and SunTout VGT rear derailleur. Too bad it's missing the headbadge, which is another helpful indicator.

I think it's an early 70's model, 72-74 or something like that, by the mid-70's they had Japanese cranks and VGT derailleurs. Is the Motobecane down tube lettering scripted or block letters? Head tube badge or decal? My brother had a '75 or '76, it was lavender with Japanese components and 1020 carbon steel tubing. I don't think they began using chrome moly tubing on GT's until the late 70's, although the 1020 frames were still decent.

This brings back some memories. My first Moto was a GT in this color. It was Huret equipped, but I had the shop put a Suntour RD on it. Mafac squealers with turkey levers removed. Tubing on yours is likely fancy gaspipe. Either 1020 or 2040. i enjoyed mine and then traded it for some cash and (ahem) merchandise after buying my Lejeune Pro. Wish I still had the Moto.
