Just curious to see who uses a 41t ring on their 144bcd cranks! Any mods or experiences with your Campy, TA ofmega etc 41t rings?

My Raleigh Professional came with a 41t ring on the SR crank. I haven't really tried it yet as I'm cleaning up the bike.

I just yesterday put one (a Stronglight 41t) on an Avocet triple 144bcd crank on my Team Pro, so I'm running 50, 41, 30. I don't seem to be having any issues shifting with an 8-speed Sram chain.

I have a couple bikes where I'd probably use a 41 if I had one, but the difference is so small that I certainly won't spend any time searching one out. If you need a lower gear you can get a whole lot more bang for your buck by adding a tooth to the freewheel than by subtracting one from the chain ring.

If you don't mind putting a Stronglight parts on a Campy crank, I know of a source for 41t rings. I have one that I'll be putting on the Appel frame set when I finally get around to building it.

I have a 41T TA ring on an Avocet crank. I can't say I notice a huge difference from a 42T ring, but I got the 41T at a decent price, so why not. One caveat is that the spider arms may need some filing to provide chain clearance; Avocet/Ofmega did this at the factory, AFAIK nobody else did this at the factory.

52/43 for years. I don't like the 52/40 on a Trek I have as with the 13-23/24 freewheel, going from the small to big gives me usable combinations with the 52/43 whereas with the 40T low, I usually need to shift up in the rear as well when on the small ring, and then that is larger than I want when I go to the big ring, so back down on the rear. Hope that makes sense
The 50/34 on my commuter sees the 34 rarely if ever used.
