Nice looking old Trek on local Craigslist

There is what appears to be an early 80's Trek on the local Craigslist for $300. I looked on Vintage-Trek.com but couldn't figure out what year & model it is.

The 1982 311 has a very similar paint/decal scheme but it's Ishiwata tubing and the bike on Craigslist clearly has a "5xx" tubing sticker on the seattube.

The 1983 500 has a similar paint/decal scheme and is made of Reynolds "5xx" steel but lacks a shield shaped yellow emblem on the fork blade.

The 1983 700 has a similar paint/decal scheme and is made of Reynolds "5xx" steel and has the shield shaped emblem on the fork but it has a different color headtube panel while the Craigslist bike has a solid headtube.

I'm not thinking of buying it as I don't have the money and I'm probably too heavy to do it justice but I'm curious about it. Anyone have any input into what model this is?

Looks to me like an '83 500 with a yellow sticker on the fork.

You should be able to talk him down a little. The Tampa market isn't that great right now.

I was looking thru the catalog and if it is an 83 500 and if it was 700c (it's 27"), I might consider asking the boss (wife-unit) for permission to buy it. The 83 500 has good frame geometry for my type of riding and more importantly, it's .9/.6/.9 tubing, which is important as I'm very heavy. But, I'm venturing into fat-tire territory right now so I'm keeping an eye out for a vintage MTB.

Crappy job on brake cable routing. I get the sense an amateurish/noob seller. Talk him down.
