Tampa Bike Path Q (re Campbell Causeway)
Can local respondents report: is the new Campbell Causeway Bike Path open yet? If yes, which parts? If no--will it open by October 18?
For our short stay in the Rocky Point area, this would appear to be readily accessed from our causeway adjacent digs...
Thanks in advance.

Yes it is open. They haven't had the official 'grand opening' but people are allowed to use it already. They have only completed the Hillsborough county side of it (which is the Rocky Point side) so you will have ready access to it. The trail is on the south side of the causeway so if you're staying on that side you should be able to get right on it. If you're staying on the North side of the causeway be real carefull crossing the parkway. There are traffic lights at the Rocky Point/ Campbell causeway intersection, but people drive like crazy thru there and it is a large intersection.
The trail is beautiful with great views and a large bridge section you should enjoy!
The Pinellas County side has not been started yet and will probably be another 1 1/2 years to complete that side.

A thousand thanks! We're staying on the north side, thanks for the road hazard notice.

I didn't even know this was in the works. How long is the trail currently and then will be in the future?

Yup...Fishing BANNED, signs just went up. As soon as the bridge opened, fishermen IMMEDIATELY staked out spots.....NOT very compatible with walking, jogging and cycling....Griping fisher-people made the news, but the county employees involved said FISHING was NEVER intended for this bridge....Riding through the debris of fishermen....fish-guts, bits of squid, hooks, rocks, seaweed, beer-cans, chairs, tackle, poles sticking out.....just plain dangerous.
On the west, Pinellas side, the trail linking it is not done....not sure what it is supposed to link up with, perhaps the Ream-Wilson Trail which would add a few miles....
