That beautiful stem being broken was a downer, but I'm not going to let it affect my excitement. The bb is messed up. I took the cranks off tonight and will address removing the bb very soon. I plan on installing a drillium sugino mighty crank with a modern shimano cartridge bb and probably switching out the brake levers too. This is going to be a very fun project! |
Hey - nice bike ! - that engraving on the bars is terrific - I was surprised to see a cottered crank - but I guess that's right for early 70's. Enjoy getting it on the road !

Nice! I have a mid 70's Galaxy frameset that eventually will be come a Clubman style bike.

That's basically identical to one that I put up on the "for sale" thread a few days ago--even the same size and color. Mine's in a little rougher shape, though--there's a bit of rust.

Mine is from the 60's but very similar, it's a great bike, I love it. If you're changing the BB and crankset you're probably going to need one with a pretty long spindle to allow the inner ring to clear that right chainstay. You may have to look for a used offset spindle rather than a cartridge BB.

My bike was upgraded to Suntour barcon shifters and derailleurs. Has original atom freewheel, steel rims, crank, weinmann brakes and of course the bars and stem. cf. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...t=dawes+galaxy I took some more pictures this morning http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/...ps86bc8123.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/...psc18454f1.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/...psfb2ae780.jpg I think same year as the bike posted by voncarlos (although not as well preserved.) |
