Unfortunately, this is part of a trail I take if I want to ride all the way into downtown Houston. Guess I'll have to figure out an alternate route...

Or they're starting to, but I'll definitely be giving it some time before venturing back that way.

The guy mentioned in the article with the broken ribs and collarbone was riding a custom Gunnar at the time, and they targeted him specifically for his bike (this was on a FB post by my LBS). Between this and the stories I've heard of people stringing up fishing line / twine across singletrack makes me think that maybe dealing with cars on the road isn't so bad after all.

nikku, There will always be some element of risk riding an urban MUP. I'd like to see more in Houston and that will require usage. I haven't been on that MUP, but I think I'll ride it for myself.
