Hold Fast Straps- Anyone Use Them?
I ran across these on the VO page. I'd been considering PowerGrips for my beartrap pedals- but I really did not like the look- and I'm kind of unable to use clips and straps on them. I just happened across the Hold Fast straps- they look like they fill the ticket- and they look pretty cool.
How well do they work? |
I use a similar brand, the Hold Fast look a little better made. The negative for these straps systems is they tend to get hot on a long ride, like your foot is in a coat. And, the pedal needs to be compatible, two cut outs in the side frames is desirable. That's why many of them are photoed in thermalite-type pedals. They also add weight, which you feel at high rpm, but if you are stroking 90+ you are probably using clipless anyway.
Powergrips are superior in a few respects, but a PIA if you wear different shoe profiles. The diagonal strap of the Powergrips is brilliant, and the resin fabric is super-strong, though it imparts black marks on light colored shoes. The trick with Powergrips is to flip-reverse the straps on install and hide the offensive logo.My guess is many more pedals are compatible with PWRGPs than fixie straps. I use them on my C&V bikes, original pedals. |
I've been looking at a set of these. I need to get new BMX platform pedals and I'd like some kind of strap (maybe)

The diagonal straps of the Power Grips make entry and exit easy. I love 'em.

I have a pair of ReStraps on my mountain bike and swearby them. They're diagonal like the Power Grips, but have an adjustable Velcro sizing method that lets them work with any size shoe. A little spendy, but this set has done 4 years hard trail duty and I expect them to outlast the pedals.

reStraps look very cool. Did you order them from the UK?

I use the Hold Fast straps with VP-001 platform pedals on my Rivendell and my Raleigh Pro. I will be adding the same set to my Ritchey. They work great, are super comfortable and allow me to use any shoe to ride in. I have ridden in Croc's in the summer and insulated Keen's when it was cold. My shoe size is 11.5. I give them a thumbs up.
These are the pedals I use: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VP-Component...item43c035e63d |
