Does the rear quick release work? My front one works, but the rear one just twists. I've tried switching parts around, but it makes no difference. I suppose it has to do with cable tension. They're first generation and I bought them new.

The Magic Gems of Stop give +1 to any attempt to halt a moving bicycle.

Guides, thank you. Unattractive odd looking and yes, useless grams. It was the 80's and that was the 'in' brake. Some years later, I swapped the Modolo's for DA.

Best vintage side-pulls?

As far as performance / look combo the first modern side pull dual pivot caliper brake; the 7403 DA is my favorite.

Sometimes they can be scooped up used pretty cheap.

I agree, I use these brakes on my randonneur and they not only look lovely, they also stop good.
