Components have group names : 1995 or newer
Skewers : 1996 or older (the 1997-2006 levers are smooth with a recess that's cut-out on Record, and the nuts stop being round on the ends)
First generation ergo levers : 1997 or older
Not 9 speed : probably 1996 or older (you could also get 8 speed in 1997, but who would?)
C-Record aero seatpost : 1997 or older - after that we got longer round posts with steel shafts which were followed by titanium and carbon fiber

Helpful!

There is an Excel catalog page floating around showing the steel Colnago framesets available in 1993/4.

There were two models, the Master Light and the Elegant.

The Elegant colors were the Ariostea team colors and the Wordperfect team.

In 1993 the tubeset was EL, but they switched during the run to ELOS and carried that into the 1994 model year.

The frameset disappeared from the catalogs after this year with the Gilco framed Master Light remaining as a frameset choice.

Fwiw The Wordperfect color was also used on the 1993/4 Master Lights, along with the Ariostea Red/yellow and the Team Lampre Blue.

Again, the Master Lights used a different steel than the Elegant. Gilco, if I remember correctly.

One other bit of trivia. The Elegant was the the lightest steel Colnago frameset until the ELOS Tecnos. By a few ounces compared to the Master Lights, so it was hardly a big deal.

Thanks.

......and don't forget, Drillium Dude rescued my Ergos from the eternal Campy scrapheap. He did an exemplary refinish on them after I had a mishap. They functioned better than new by the time he was finished with them.

CMG's will look top notch as well once he gets her cleaned up and dialed.

Thanks everyone for the awesome info, Im stoked :thumb:

The more I search and read, the frame appears to be 93, as for the components well thats a bit harder to tell.
Yes the seat post is way out and still about 10 - 20mm too short, but I plan on leaving it so.

As I have previously said, I plan on riding this baby a bit, so values (and to some extent age) are irrelevant, but Im in love with the workmanship, and the brushed alloy look of the components is great.

Once again, thanks to all.

Once again, thanks to all.

Campagnolo aesthetics pretty much peaked at the tail end of C-Record which conveniently coincided with the move to ergo, dual pivot brakes, and freehubs which work about as well as they do in contemporary form plus 8 cogs. Enjoy!

OK, now for the stupid questions :)

as far as chains go, can I put an 8 speed Shimano chain on? or do I need a certain type of chain for all the Campagnolo components?

I use Campy 8/9 speed chains, but have also used Wippermanns with good results.

A Shimano chain on a Campy drive train will instantly explode! :) jk

Actually, they'll work as well.

thanks gomango :thumb:

Dont worry Im happy for you all to laugh at my expense, as I said earlier this roadie thing is new to me, just as long as I get the right info.
