Well, nice conversation starter, anyway.
Pair that with a 12t cog for a 136+ inch gear. Or to put it another way about 40% more than I'd ever need. ymmv

The question is that is it for a track bike?
The bike shop said it was for a pignonfixe ( fixed gear ) but someone else has told me it might be for a derny.

Just make sure you roll up your pants leg, or you might lose that leg. EDIT: And just how long are those crank arms, anyways? 180? 185?

The cranks I have seen like that were mostly used on wind or mag trainers not rideable bikes. Roger

Ms BB makes me wish I could ride like a girl... (She also won the female division in RAAM on a 'bent, and IIRC set a new record in the process)

That'll take you an hour to spin up to a significant speed lol!

Both right. Most probably for a derby paced track bike. Small possibility for a tandem track bike too, the non drive side crank may not be the match. Campagnolo and TA both made some huge chainrings.

For a land speed record ring, think of a chainring as large as the crank arms and beyond.

Now, that is big.

I wonder how the tax laws in some European countries differ from the USA, there appear to be many more shops that have old inventory squirreled away than what you find in the USA. Or, was the distribution such that a shop to get a decent price for stuff had to make a huge qty. commitment? No stocking distributors?

I have no idea why there seems to be more here. I always thought it was shops buying the old stock from other shops that had closed down.
This shop has some really cool items and i always find something different everytime i go. Last time, i found this crankset and also saw NOS nickel plated crank arms from the 20/30s.
Also a pile of the decorative Peugeot crank rings from around the 1930s bare metal unplated.
I was told though in the 1980s Japanese buyer bought the majority of the NOS items from Paris to take back to Japan.

I also found this very nice NOS Philippe track stem.

I like that stem. There is a guy in Santa Barbara who has made his living traveling around buying up old stock from shops / warehouses in Europe, then shipping containers worth here to sell a la carte. I would have assumed that he would have run out of places to look by now, but I do think the early days of lots of Campagnolo lying around are gone.

Yep- and I was in Battle Mountain for TU Delft's new record. Kinda difficult to see the speed come up on the monitor, then have to keep my mouth shut until all of the requirements for a new record to be confirmed.
