Chain Breakers
So I was putzing around yesterday with a "vintage" Cyclo tool and the thot occurred to me that there simply has to be a better way in the 21st Century! Well, actually I know there is from when I owned a bike shop in the 80's. But I'm sure there are new and wonderful tools out there that I don't know about.
I'll never own a 9 or 10 or 14 speed so I won't need a tool for the razor chains. I'm pretty much just the narrow 6-7-8 speed models and will only need a tool for those. So, what's out there? thanx for any assist Charlie |
I find it hard to beat a park CT-3

Park.

I agree- Park for normal, half inch pitch chains. It works like a champ and you can replace the pins pretty cheaply as needed. I use a modified Sunlite Mini for skiptooth chains.

+10 CT3, its the best one out there for the type of chain you are using.
And on nasty, rusty chain that you will be tossing, my preferred tool continues to be my 24 inch bolt cutters. Broke a few chain tool pins (replacable) before I wised up and switched to bolt cutters. Harbor Freight or similar on bolt cutters. On sale right now for $14.99, be sure to download a 25% off coupon at slickdeals along with a free tool coupon. That gets the price down to $11.25. While you are there, pick up their brake hone, $6.99. Always handy to have one of those for deburring seat tubes and steering tubes. |
