Do you plan a build around a frame, or a group of parts (or something else)?

Do you plan a build around a frame, or a group of parts (or something else)?

I still want to build a bike around some cream Schwalbe Fat Frank tires.

It usually starts as a concept for me, then I search for a frame that will fit that concept, then I get parts for the frame. I try not to buy parts I don't have a bike for yet. (Would get too expensive too quickly and I would get teased by my wife for my packrat-like tendencies.)

I bought these CLB brakes branded IRIS on ebay.

So started looking for a frame to put them on. Had to be French. Found this frame with a very reasonable "Buy it Now" price.

To top it off I found a Follis branded saddle even before i took delivery of the frame. The whole thing just sort of built itself.

This was my inspiration for a build starting with a misnamed frame and some Campi bits

Definitely around the frame. I don't see a old crankset and think 'Dam, I someone needs to build a bike around that!' lol usually its more like I see some poor old bike, broken and unloved, spending its last few years rusting away... and I get all mushy and have to resurrect the bugger. True story.

My first thought if I were building a RIGI. And I wish I was.
