'85 Merckx Molteni Pro Campy pantographed
12 Attachment(s)
It was suggested that I post a thread of my 57cm Merckx Special limited Ed. Molteni Pro and attempt to add some photos. I am not a photographer, so bear with me.
Ser.# 7 Z A 490 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352074http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352075 I understand that Merckx only started making bikes in 1980. The external routing of the break cable along the top tube (brazed cable guides) and the flat fork crown http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352002 It has the generic Columbus Speciale decal, which I am lead to believe that the first production frames shared this characteristic, as well as the shifter cable routing over the bottom bracket (as this does), but I may be incorrect on this. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352005http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352007 It is full Campy Record pantographed. Has the chrome Eddy Merckx Silca frame pump, and the water bottle with the Merckx bicycle factory (original business) address; s Herenweg 11 - 1860 Meise - Belgium - tel: 02/269 62 72 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352064 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352082 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352010http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352012 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352013http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352014 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=352016 If there is anything specific you think I should post, please let me know. |
WOW. what a show peice.... how oftern do you ride her?
|
Very, very cool bike. I like it.
|
We'll have to send you the rules about correct crankarm, chain, and tire placement for photographing bikes :)
Just kidding. Wonderful bike. Thanks for sharing. And instead of uploading pics, you can make them hi-res & full screen by using a third party hosting site (flickr, photobucket, etc) and linking the images. |

Love those Eddys.
OPs is special enough to be saved for only 'golden day' rides, the ones we all savor. edit: sad that i'll prolly never own one. wouldn't even have to be orange. |

Fantastic bike.
|
Looks like the holy grail of Eddy bikes!
|
What a beauty!
|
BTW, I presume so but…is that all original? That is in amazing condition.
|
Sweet ride - love it. I've got a similar bike, but it's red, and doesn't have all the panto - just some of it.

Very pretty. Bet the ride is fantastic!
The mid 80's were really high point years for Merckx in so many ways. |
Really nice.
|
Ah, ha...I knew there had to be a trick.. Thanks all.....are there rules @ placement?
I ride it all the time. I did take it apart and repacked it all back it in it's boxes / sleeves (greased) (except for large frame box) and stored for @ 10years. I am buying a new record to ride for another 28 years. Merckx are all I have ever owned (one model or another over the years). Of course, my first I have never parted with. |
Yes, all original. Right down to the chrome Silca pump, and EM company water bottle ...I have wrapped the bars in new tape and the pedals are for my cleats; but I have box of white cotton bar tape (the original), and the pedals and white leather toe-clip straps are packed in their blue Campy box.

Can't help but notice your user name and location go together well.

Merckx made two replica bike models back in the the 80's, this one, and an earlier Faema replica. Both are fairly rare and sought after. Both came with identical components, down to the pantographed Silca pump. The Faema differs in that it has a foil backed picture of a younger Eddy than the Molteni version. It is my understanding that the Faema is more desirable, mainly because it is earlier. Both models are grail bikes for many Merckx fans. Consider yourself lucky. Even in well ridden condition, the bike is worth around $2.5k
If I recall correctly, Eddy came out with the replicas to capitalize on his reputation and to help the disappointing sales (at the time) of his fledgling bike company. |
My eyes twitching.
|
I'll find one sooner or later.
Great bicycle you have there Orvis. BTW With that handle, I'll just assume you do some fly fishing out there. |

I am a biologist, and yes I do a bit of fly fishing. This is where you see my complete OCD and bike geekieness, I also take birding groups on bikes. Quick, quiet, and can get further into areas that would take too long to reach...also it gets people out on bikes.

(I just wish I was in Montana to do them all the time!) |
