Shipping from Canada
I'm looking to ship out a couple of frames, one to Germany and one to australia.
I"m getting crazy shipping prices in the $500 -$900 range. Do any of you guys have any services that you'd use that are pretty cheap? I've looked up Fedex, Canada post and DHL so far. Just wondering if you guys had any more ideas for cheaper services. |
good luck. i sent a frame from canada to italy for $150 by sea. took 3 months to be delivered. price for air shipping was in your range. i bought a frame from a guy in germany. it was $90 for shipping and was delivered in 8 days. go figure.

Try EMS http://www.ems.post/operators

The craziest part is the fact that I can see guys from Germany and whatnot send us a frame for 90-120 dollars and when we try to send it to them it's like 5x the price

The levels of postal subsidies varies from country to country.

Try this.
I haven't used them, but if my Miele doesn't sell locally i will give them a try soon. http://bikeflights.com/ |

I sell small cycling components by mail and I sympathize with you on shipping cost. Weight and volume are the determinants of cost along with distance and Australia is the worst. Try a calculation at Canada Post here to see if you can improve the quote. Otherwise, provide a choice to the purchaser of surface mail or paying the real cost of the air freight. I sent pedals to Italy and the new owner preferred surface mail to doubling his costs. |
I have sent lots of frame sets to Europe via Canada Post. Generally, the price is well under $200.00. For example to Germany, using a box 38" x 8" x 25" @ 16lb = $172.00 CND. Sadly, from Thunder Bay to anywhere I cannot match most shippers prices.

Australia is the worst to ship to. Thats the truth. Your quotes are about normal for it to go down under.

Maybe you should ship it to someone in the states and then have them forward it on to your buyer? |
The OP may just have to shuffle off to Buffalo NY to get a more attractive shipping deal.

Might be worth going to Buffalo and sending it from the states. I used to get outrageous quotes from the CP website but in the office it was a lot lower... dunno if it's any better these days.

I was going to say: Buffalo it is.
But that point's been made. Over here in the Lower Mainland/Vancouver, I'd be off to Point Roberts or Blaine/Bellingham. Probably bring my own and get a nice ride in...probably nicer than Buffalo this time of year (though there is actually just a little snow on the ground here today). |
