Are They Good Bars

Hi All

Happy Holidays to all my Forum Members. I have first crack at some Aluminum Handle Bars, but want to make sure they are good ones. They have no name on them per say, do have to icons... One of a rider on a bike on one side and a world globe on the other. Please, let me get some info on these bars. Thanks..

Philo:)

Philippe bars had a rider on the left side, looking to ward the saddle. And a round crest on the right.

2 posts but no pictures...LOL, come on now.
Based on the hints, I think rootboy has given you the best answer possible already: Philippe.
many or that brand are French dimension, meaning the clamp diameter may be 25mm (they could be 25.4 if later edition), other than that they are OK aluminum handlebars: not bad, nothing special.
here's a pic of the "rider" on an early bar, clearly has the name Philippe right above him, however, so that wouldn't be much of a mystery...courtesy of VeloBase.com

hard to answer without pictures.
2 people suggested Phillipe bars which are good quality.

If you can post pictures of the icons that would definitely help.

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=356322 The problem is that I'm at work, so it's difficult to up load pictures. So all I have was the hints, rider on left side, but no words and a globe on the right side of the bar.. 40... and 25.4.

rootboy 12-23-13 11:16 AM

I think I'd pick those up, just for the cool imprint. Not sure of the brand, tho'.

Sorry, I don't know what kind of bar it is. However it likely wouldn't have nice engraving if it was pure junk. If the bend as viewed from both the top and the side seems reasonably normal and the clamp size is correct (as you say, 25.4mm) and the width is good for you, then go ahead and use it. Other than the bend and width it's pretty hard to tell one bar from another just by riding it. OTOH, if you are a large, strong rider and you like to pull on the bar with all your might, then wait for some other C&V member's evaluation.

There are lots of nice bars in the world.

Thank you All very much...

If it is indeed a French Philippe bar, it will be very light.....but quite flexy. I had them on my Peugeots in the 80's and was quite astonished how light they felt compared to Cinelli bars of the same size. As mentioned though, the diameter of the bars might be the smaller French 25mm at the stem clamp. This results in less comfortable bar for some with bigger hands, especailly if you use the thin cello type tapes to wrap it. The bar will also be a bit more flexy as I noticed that the Philippes I had were made from thinner gauge aluminum tubing, compared to most Italian made bars......So if you prefer a very stiff bar to pull against when you sprint, the Philippes might not be the best bars for you.....

if the brake levers are not parallel the whole bar has sagged from long use , and the aluminum is soft.

if you are not going to ride the bike this may be acceptable .. a collector for the sake of collecting.
