Can anyone identify this bike?

I have a pre-war (I think) ladies bicycle missing it's badge and I'm trying to figure out what it is. It has paisley shaped holes in the pedal sprocket and I haven't been able to find any other bike with this style.

My son wants to make a father-son project out of this, so I'd like to figure out what it is so I know what to do with it.

Thanks,
John

It will be a 2014 Money Pit if you do it. Find something better to start with. Even it you get it done it will be worth very little. I would guess it might be a Huffy middleweight fron the 1960s. It has no value. Roger

It doesnt look pre-war to me. Closer to Vietnam war era im guessing. Like Rhenning said, you will put 5 times what its worth to restore it.

Do I see a bent seat stay? It's true what they say about these bikes not being worth the time, but I fix them up anyway. There's always some college girl who can't adopt a crippled puppy cause she lives in a dorm and so she buys an ugly old bike instead.
But if the seatstay is bent then it's a gonner. Too bad, cause your right about it being kinda unique. That seat tube to down tube bend doesn't show up often.
Would make a dandy lawn ornament.

+100 Not prewar. Crimped drop out attachment, typical Huffy as I recall. Looks 1960s to me as well.

The chainwheel (paisley shaped) is a Wald replacement, not original. Looks like a '60's bike to me, maybe a JC Higgins or a Western Flyer. Not really worth much- girls bikes are mostly just for parts to refurbish boy's bikes, too much rust on that one to be of much use.

I think I would find a more worthy project that one of you would want to ride first.
I could see this as being turned into a no chrome all painted parts eclectic bike but it would still consume far more cash than the end result would be worth.
The frame is the most interesting part but not that noteworthy.

I noticed the odd bottom bracket junction and interesting fork. Also appears to have a Perry or Komet rear hub. It's some kind of strange off-brander for sure. Sadly, she's too far gone to be much more than a lawn ornament...

Its a turd, but cool looking, which can't be said about more turds. If it were me, I'd get the hubs, bb, hs, etc cleaned up while leaving all the rust and patina and use it as a beater that you don't have to worry about.

That thing on the rear fender appears to be a remnant of a bike license plate and appears to show the year - 1959. Which is about the year I'd have guessed anyway. What brand of rear hub brake is it (on the brake anchor arm or on the hub itself)?
