Is that a bug zapper? If so, it's great that the fork can continue functioning as it was designed!

Rudi, don't go all "Breaking Bad" on us now. But it is good for your conscience to come clean and admit you were an accessory to the crime. Of course this was during Carter's era so by the time Reagan launched his "War on Drugs" in the 1980s, we can surmise you had reformed your errant ways and were living a squeaky clean life re-purposing old Shimano parts into tools to assist in the linguistic analysis of 6000 year old texts.

Do we have a "Peace" officer participating here in C&V? I've never noticed one, which sort of surprises me.

I made one of those Picasso bulls out of an old Major Taylor sliding stem & chrome rando bars with a black racing saddle. I'll have to get some photos to post on here.

i really like fork-turned-toilet paper-holder. maybe I will grab a fork from the co-op and make one of those.

Ya that gave me a laugh, although I would rather make a base for it and have it point upward.

I'll start. Last summer the crummy, flappy plastic gas handle on my cheap Chinese lawn mower broke off. Shimano saved the day:
I have a bag full of Campy shifters. I think I finally have a use for them!

I'd like to use a centerpull for a pick-up device. Maybe at the end of a piece of top tube, with a comfortable handlebar grip and handbrake to work it. See
https://www.shutterstock.com/pic-1384...1KQxx48iQ-1-17
and tell whether it gives you an idea of what to do with Shimano parts.

Do you have an opinion on their fishing tackle? I don't travel in fisherman circles, so I have no idea where they stand.

It's just like with their bike components.. they make a spectrum spanning garbage to greatness, I can pick up a Shimano QuickFire(sounds vaguely familiar no?) for something like 10 bucks.. probably will only have one bearing set and all plastic gearing, still will outlast most other reels in the same price range even though it's junk and a 1 season toy. It's a small spincaster.

On the other end of the spectrum are things like the Curado baitcaster series reels, which even the pro's use and depending on model will cost you $100-$300, with lots of ball bearings almost all gears being metal and all kinds of other very nice features.

I have a few of their budget reels, one from the FX series I think it's a 4000b or some such nonsense and it casts incredibly smooth and retrieves well despite being a sub 30 dollar reel. A few of my rods are also Shimano, they're stiff and lively so I'm able to cast well and fight larger bass without any issues. I also happen to have a really really cheap (think Acera or Tourney) shimano ax ulsa reel, smallest spinning reel I own even it's a 1 bearing setup rated at 2lb-190yd, 4lb-100yd, 6lb-60yd on a fairly light action shorty rod (6' or 6'6" I forget which) and it is definitely my favorite for basic fishing.. I've brought in 4.5lb bass on 4lb test using that rod and reel without too much trouble..

To summarize, Shimanos great for fishing gear but like always research the specific model.

What can I make out of a Trek 360 frame with a slight bulge on the top tube from an accident.

Haha, no it's a kosher story though a bit bloody... My nephew (country mouse) was teaching me (city mouse) the fine art of rural entertainment by staring at a murky brook for hours whilst waiting for some smelly critter to bite on some worm suspended from a line. It all went very well in theory until the moment came about that the actual line was to be cast. Doing as told I have the rod a mighty swing, only to find that the hook readily found home in my nephews' back. There's a thin line between fishing and standing like an idiot on the shore, and I crossed it.
