raleigh headset bearing size ?

Hi all,

I recently posted a thread concerning my old raleigh's headset bearing and if anyone would know a replacement.
I decided to strip down the front end to see what condition the bearings where in. The top looked fine there could be one missing or it could be have been the lack of grease.

The bottom on the other hand where worn down and where tiny, maybe 1/10 the size of the top ones or even smaller.

I was wondering just on the off chance that the bottom are supposed to be much smaller ? The cups as I can see from the out side look the same size.

The headset is the standard 1 inch size. The person that had the bike before me seems to have lost the locking ring and also the spacers which just makes my life harder.

the bike is a Raleigh Sun Solo made in gazelle in 1980 I am stating that it was made in gazelle because I read on Sheldon browns page that the Nottingham raleighs had a different size or thread count. I could be mistaken.

If anyone one would know the size of the bearings for a 1'' raleigh headset I would then be able to go out and buy some separate bearings hopefully.

thanks Dean.
