The SR rear derailleur is rated at 28T; the difference from a Nuovo Record 26T is the cage. Since most the parts of Nuovo Gran Sport (also 26T), NR and SR rear derailleurs are interchangeable, you can mix and match the cages. I have used (am using) a SR cage on both a NGS and NR rear derailleurs, so I can utilize a 28T cog and both work without issue.

I'm capable of running a triple and a 14-28 with my C-Record rear derailleur and double front. I picked up a Campag triple front derailleur but I'm just too lazy to install it as the double works.

Before I installed the triple crankset I was using a Chorus crankset and the key to running a 28 was chain length since theirs no adjustments for b tension on the GS/NR/SR derailleurs and axle placement for the upper pulley clearance.
