Rare find peugot ??
I have a 83? psv10s that I bought on Craigslist (just under $400.00 IIRC). -VIN#1926603- I found a picture online of the same model here:
https://www.cykelhobby.com/peugeot.htm
here is google translation of the text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peugeot PSV10S
This is one of the later Peugeot Super Vitus 980 frame tube and the traditional connection of the rear frame sadelrör. It is also one of the later models with Strong Light crankset (here marked Peugeot similar courage. 104bis). The gears are Simplex, also marked the Peugeot. The brakes are Weinmann 605 (Mafac with handles!) And the handlebar and stem CTA. Seatpost is the Simplex brand. Original Peugeot-branded rampump and drink bottle. The weight of clincher wheels is 10.5 kg, low for such a high frame (64 cm).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It must be a Swedish model. I Picked it up for my wife (She needed a bike for her first triathalon), but having never ridden a road bike (let alone a whip) the test ride was her only go. The thing is near flawless, and if I was 6" shorter I would love to see what it could do. (it's a 56cm and I'm 6'4)
I'm guessing there are not many of these around (north America), especially in mint condition. Did I still pay too much? I doubt I will sell it, probably just hang it on a wall as art.
The Sweedish guy I picked it up from updated the brakes and wheels, but gave me the old wheels and some old tubless tires.
I see some crazy sh!% on ebay where someones asking $1700.00 for a similar bike to mine, but of course no one has bid on it.
Anyone venture to say what it is worth ( Now or in 23 years?? )
Thanks
Derek

Although Miami Jim's estimate is right-on, I wanted to add that the PSV10 is, IMO, an especially underrated bike. ( I've sold lesser bikes for more money.) Congratulations on your purchase!

With the amount of misidentified Peugeot bikes, I wouldn't assume the OP acutally has a PSV10 until he posts a pic of his bike.

That does look like a PSV10 from 1983, with it's distinctlive (almost signature) 104 bis dilled crank. I loved the PSV so much that it convinced me to get my own 1984 the next year. I do suspect though, that the bike pictured was re-painted as I think that it should have some traditional checkered decal work that Peugeot had on almost all their bikes at that time, but if it is, it loks like they did a good job on the new finish.
Rare?...uhmmm... not that rare, but not that common either, as Peugeot was pretty much the only monufacturer to really make SV980 frames in significant numbers, with Gitane and maybe Motobecane having their own versions but most likely in much less volumes. You're more likely to find 10 Peugeots with Reynolds 501 frames before you come across an SV980 framed Peugeot, but as all classics bikes will, they will get even harder to find as the years go by and bikes are taken off the road because of accident damage or wear.
Hope your wife will have many fun miles on the bike. As already mentioned, the PSV is definitely a very underrated bike. It is a bit flexible compared to contemporary steel frames of that time, but it was one of the lightest you can get in the 80's. It even matched the weights people were getting from the much lauded, later released Reynolds 753 tubesets.
I think that bikes built with SV980 tubes will appreciate in value as the years go by.
Welcome to the Peugeot PSV club!

The bile in the pics, is all origional, just like mine is. Coming from Sweden, the paper sticker says psv10s56 and I guess the later "s" stands for swedish.? Certainatly not a repaint.
Thanks for the replies- I guess I hoped it would be more value due to being an import that is rare.? Anyone else have on just like it?

I'm somewaht limited on what I can do on the work computer so I'll make a few general statements...
Yes, the PSV/N models tend to very under rated. In fact I think they're one of the nicest bikes Peugeot ever made. The PSV/N models had an abscence of the traditional checkering, they had rather plain decaling until the rainbow scheme around 1984/5 was phased in.
PSV10s56 loosely translates to:
P: Peugeot
SV: Super Vitus tubing
10: raceing model
s: Nobody really know what alot of the suffixes mean but in this case it could be for Simplex or Stringlight or Spidel or tubular tires. 'N' is usualy reserved for clincher tire but its found in the prefix. PSN10 would be a clincher tire bike. In genral suffixes relate to trim level or specification level versus the country it was sold in.
56: frame size in centimeters
Super Vitus Peugeots are relativly rare in comparison to other Peugeots because they were expensive verus being limited production.

One more thing.
So, do you feel it's just coincidence that the only pictures of the psv10s's I can find online (look exactly like mine, with plastic badging instead of stickers) are from Swedish websites?
Can anyone chime in to say that this model was, or was not sold in the states?
Thanks again for every ones input, I love the fact there is so much enthusiasm for the psv10's. Chombi, your 84 is gorgeous.
I had some really neat pics on my camera but lost the camera before I downloaded them. I have A pic I sent to my hotmail for insurance purposes, but I have yet to figure out how to take the jpeg from my email and get it over to my flickr accnt.

Here're all of the U.S. models from '82-'87:
'82&'83: Seem to have the raised plastic head badge and a conventional seat post binder bolt. French fork and Swiss BB threading.
'84: Set screw for seat post on backside of seat post. French fork and Swiss BB threading
'85,'86&'87: Internaly expanding seat post. '86 and '87 are BSA threading. '85's seems to be in the purgatory of threading.

I'm always on the lookout for the Super Vitus frames - I have had three (still own two) and they all ride fantastically. Welcome to the PSV club.

Here is the bike.....
Finally found the picture I was looking for.
I am still convinced this was a Swedish only model. No one seems to be able to prove otherwise. Hope you like the pic..

It very far from original specification. In reality it doesnt matter if it was a Swedish, French, U.S., Brazilian or Japanese model. They're all Super Vitus models and that alone is what determines their value not the country they were marketed in. I'd imagine they'd all spec'd very similarly except for a Brazilian model, those probably dont have any decals.

Not really sure why I want to believe the psv10s is somehow special, but I have been looking for another just like it for quite a while now, and the only pics with matching markings come from Sweden. I might be way off here, but IF mine is a one of a kind in the north american market, does that not make it a little cooler.
It helps that I am thick skulled, for I often ride without a helmet ;/

Another 1983 PSV 10
Earlier this year I bought a 1983 PSV 10 frame on US eBay for $300. It came with the standard Stronglight headset, Stronglight 104bis cranks with drilled chainrings, Simplex front derailleur and Weinmann 405 brake calipers.

I bought it because of the SV 980 tubing. I have a 1980 Bertin C37bis made of SV 980 and it's a sweet riding sub 20 lb. bike with sewups.
I also have a 1988 Peugeot Chorus that I got as a bare frame. They came with a Reynolds 753 frame and a Campy Chorus gruppo. I'm just finishing assembling it with NOS and near NOS Chorus components.

mrvelo: Please start a new thread with some history on your beautiful PSN-10, and include some more pictures. I have three of these great riding bicycles.
