Cinelli supercorsa or not?

Hi guys,

I just met my friend and saw his cinelli... It's look like supercorsa in every details except the lug on front fork... My friend didn't know either.

Anyone know what is this frame?

Thanks in advance.

What an interesting question. I don't know the answer but I'd really like to find out as well. My guess is that it's a Supercorsa of a recent vintage but I really don't know. It's a very nice bike by the way.

On the head tube lugs, R side, on the back, look for a very small flying C stamped into the lug. That's one way to tell. The seat stays look right, the panto on the fork, of course. I wouldn't discount it because of the lugwork on the fork or the lack of chrome on the lugs and seat stay ends, it could have been a custom order. I had one with eyelets. After 1984, many of the forks were made by Chirico, both the internal and external lugged models. Sure is pretty.

No chrome, no internal fork crown. Certainly can be a Cinelli, but I don't think it is an SC. Do you have a picture of the underside of the bottom bracket?

It has the fork of this:
Cinelli Only: Mens Sana In Corpore Sano

Other details of this:
Cinelli Only: Pro Advantage

What country are you located in? It is a Cinelli, but not a Super Corsa. What does the tubing decal say?

Well done jiangshi - do you know anything about the model? Any notable differences between that and an SC other than the fork crown? Tubing? The lugs look a little beefier all around.

That's a new one to me.

Looks to me like this can be seen in the first photo.

very nearly a Pro Advantage (AFAI can tell) except for the TT guides, plus can't tell what the BB shell may be nor the tubing (decal?) or brake bridge. But the fork is, yes, same as on the "mens sana" and a particularly cheesy crown, too, IMHO. Might be an early SC reissue with an oddball fork but that could be stretching it just to make the SC name cover.

With a full C Record group, Delta brake and Sherrif's Star hubs.

Nice, very nice.

The problem with bikes like this example, is that it is most likely a repaint, so it's anyone's guess as to what it was originally. It is a Cinelli, no doubt, but the model may never be known. I'm no expert, but I would guess early 90's or later 1980's for a time frame. Note that the seatpost binder is slightly different than an SC of that era, and appears to be a bit crude around the stays. The country it is in may help, as would more pictures.

You say this bike belongs to your friend? Think he'd notice if it went missing?

When I peeked in earlier, I was not thinking it was something else, but I felt the fork was off for a "Cinelli Silver" bike. A value priced Cinelli in a upmarket disguise. Cinelli model confusion appears constant over the decades.

these details look pretty much consistent with a late '80s Pro Advantage, the only diff I can see is that the dropouts are panto'd "Cinelli" by GPM (or Columbus) rather than the Campy 1010B...I guess in '88 (or so) it would have had the Campy Chorus gruppo, and of course a different fork...

Serial number would indicate a 1990 bike. Top tube cable guides differ from Super Corsa's of that era, or even the Pro Advantage, but resemble earlier cable guides. The rear brake bridge looks close to an SC's but not quite.

well, right you are^
hard to believe it but it was a regular Cinelli investment-cast crown, for sale to anyone, but sure didn't get much use compared to the other 3 styles shown with it.
