Love the mongoose, I'm guessing those are the Tektro canti's you spoke of? They do look a lot easier to deal with than most. Congrats on kiddo #2 btw! I think if I ever have to work on my projects as slowly as you, I hope they come out even half as nice.

Wife and kids were out of town for a week and then I have been tinkering during lunchtime and finished this. It's a 1998 Lemond Tourmalet. The frame has plenty of paint peel but no dents anywhere, mechanically it is flawless now. All bearings repacked, wheels trued, and new cables and housings throughout. Nice rider, but it will be sold as soon as I can. I think I only got 10% of what I wanted done while the family was away but oh well, it's nice to have them back around. Up next is turning a lugged Trek 750 into a drop bar randonneur. Should have it done in +/- 6months.

Oh yeah, pictures:

I apologize for any retinal bleeding beforehand. |
can i ask, what are you paying for those powder jobs? $120ish? or more?
i'm thinking of asking a local shop, seattle powder coat, to do another bike for me... |

Been a while I have posted anything of note. Busy traveling for work and taking care of my two boys. That said I finished work on a Trek this weekend. 1994 Trek 750 to be specific. I did a complete repair, replaced components that didn't work, added rapid-fire shifters, sway back bars, and other not really mentionable stuff. It was nice to wrench, the world just feels right working on a bike.

Sweet, I love the steel Trek hybrids for making a a multi purpose bike.
Your crank arms look really long (or could be the grass), are they originals? |
I think that is the camera playing tricks on you. 175's, it does look long though. They are originals.

My latest...
I had this Trek 750 built up for the earlier Quarantine Challenge this year but it shifted horribly with the Suntour drivetrain, drop bars too narrow, and was just heavy in general. I was able to find a donor bike that had Ultegra 6500 hubs and poorly built wheels (which I fixed-ish) and a more wide old Control tech bar. Then it was too the parts bins in my shop for most everything else. Drive train is DuraAce down tube shifters converted to 10spd from 9spd, mounted on barcon studs, leftover Suntour XCD front derailleur, XT 9spd rear mech running 10spd 11-36 cassette, SRAM 10spd chain, Shimano 105? Compact Double (50-34). It works flawlessly, believe it or not. Not sure of the weight but it feels 10lbs lighter.

Some time spent on my Bruce Gordon...
...Chinook. This is a frame I had Powder Coated by Groody Brothers 10 years ago and it couldn't figure out what it wanted to be. Last year I realized that it wanted to be an Eroica/Cino bike, but obviously things were cancelled and so did my desire to finish building it up.
Last night I got a decent amount of the rolling chassis going and wanted to share. Anyone have a good source for chrome/metal chain stay protectors? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4b191b640a.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9186400fd6.jpg Very funky drivetrain. Sugino touring cranks with 3 different types of chainrings, XT mid cage rear derailleur with a big wheel I found, Sunrace freehub. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d59c2cd7fb.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...14958f0592.jpg is this a Motobecane logo on the rando bars? |
No love today?
