Holy cow Jeff, they did a great job on the Superior. That is looking like it just came from Chicago now. I’m looking forward to the continuation of this thread.

Looks like a good match for the "Lime Green" from here!
(Off Topic: Schwinn's "Opaque Green" is what I would actually call Lime green, not your color. And their "Opaque Blue" is what I would call Sky Blue!)
From your wheel build details it appears you're going for more of a "resto-mod" vs. an exact factory correct restoration. Great work so far!

Nice continuation. Don't worry about lapses, we all get them.
So is this the winter project?

Ha ha. That looks way better than how they came out of the factory. :-) Bottom bracket shell looks sparkly clean too.

Nice Jeff !!! Love that color green. I have a similar project on hold with this '76 Fuji Special Road Racer S10-S. I hope I can do as well as you did.

Honestly... it is better than factory. I worked in a Schwinn shop for a few years (1979 to 1984) and, while the paint was pretty darn good, they never did a clear coat over decals like this one. I told Black Magic Paint to "go nuts"... and they did.

Well, it was sunny and 45 degrees last Saturday, so I went riding. (Then I took down the Christmas lights.) At this rate it may take me another year or two to get this done.

I am gathering the parts for the build and I have very nice friends. This is what I acquired a couple days ago: NOS Shimano XTR (first-series M900) parts.

OK... almost exactly 4 years from when I started this thread, it's almost done. It's all together, rideable, and everything works correctly.
I'm still trying to figure out what tires would be appropriate for a pavement-biased "hybrid" bike. Any suggestions for 700 x 35C tires, possibly with skinwalls?
Here's a couple photos. They're kind of washed out because it was an unusually warm and sunny day. It's gotten cold and rainy again, but I'm hoping for some dry-but-overcast days to really capture the details.
As before, complete album here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ohpv/a...57642470085394
The handlebars and stem are titanium, found at a local co-op:
The drivetrain is all first-series XTR:
The (almost) finished product. Now I just have to get the time off work to ride it around.
