Charlot Constructeur Tandem Teaser
Earlier this week I picked up this little gem. The pics are crappy because I just found it, but it's cool. Someone put a motor on it, which will likely come off. I'd appreciate any info about Charlot Cycles. Looks to be pretty high end, but I can't find any info on the builder?
What I do know: it's all fillet brazed, it has a lot of really cool french bits and unfortunately some rust. As a starter it has: a cyclo derailleur, a Pivo stem, a Philippe stoker stem, RD(?) fenders, Berko generator and lights, Charlot pedals, Moyne 3speed freewheel, and Rigida rims with unknown hubs. I'll try to get more pics this weekend, but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for preliminary info? Cheers, wjv http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psa1a2caa6.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psefadb42f.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps0cd15444.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ps316aebe0.jpg http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psc739ac10.jpg |
Wow

Got chain?
|
Definitely designed by Rube Goldberg and not Grant Petersen. Have fun with it!
|
Wow! It's not often I'm jealous, but this is giving me a hard time. I'd keep the motor for now. How cool is that?
|
That is super cool!
The fenders i suspect are HD and not RD? Those extra long tandem Cyclo derailleur cables are quite hard to find. So my advice would be to be careful with that cable until you have a spare one. It looks like it has a standard non flashy Cyclo derailleur braze-on and a brazed-on rear rack. Maybe early 1940s - late 1930s? Seems to have JEAY brakes, does it have a drum brake on the back? If so it might be a steel MAXI. I'm not 100% but it looks like it has a Specialites TA adapter on the front crank. It's good that it still has the ring on the front wheel for the speedometer. It's a really cool tandem and i would love one like that at some point. But you have to leave the motor on and try it with it! |
how many cc is the engine?
|
Dang Man! I was planning on driving down monday to pick that up. You beat me to it! It was a 5 hour trip for me each way so in a way I'm glad. Keep me in mind if you decide to move it along. That's a cool weird bike.

Bugatti designed a 25 cc supercharged one. |
I think that Motor is Ducati sourced. And please keep with the bike. Id bet they've been together for a long time.

I'm normally against motors, but that one is pretty neat. I'd say just clean it, grease it, new disposables and call it a day.
