British thread size

I'm lookin at buying a frame that dosnt come with a BB and the seller says that the frame has standard british thread size. Is the british thread size 24tpi or like raleigh 26tpi. Would anyone know what the thread size is.

non-fixie 03-31-14 01:34 PM

British is 1.37 x 24 TPI, whereas Raleigh is 1 3/8" X 26 TPI. (see Sheldon)

What frame are you lookin at buying? I ask because you obviously need help.

The seller dosnt know the make of the frame but does know that it is of british thread. The frame has been repainted and has campagnolo dropouts here's some pics.

Pretty nice looking frame. It doesn't look like a Nottingham Raleigh, so I'll bet that it's the relatively universal 24tpi, not the Raleigh specific 26 tpi. Another decent clue would be the width of the bottom bracket shell. If it's the industry standard 68mm (someone correct me if I've mis-remembered) then it's probably not a 26tpi Raleigh.

ok thanks no i dont think its a raleigh but the seller just said it was british standard and i though hmm is raleigh british standard or do they do somting different.

shoota 03-31-14 07:55 PM

Just measure. 68mm = standard english thread

Tracy94 04-01-14 07:21 AM

I can't measure it it's for sale and I'm about 500 miles away from it and the seller seems Abit numb on relpys

No way it's Raleigh threaded, even if it's a Raleigh bike (which it isn't, but that's beside the point). Seller could be wrong about the threading; could be French or Italian or even Swiss; but no matter what it is you should be able to find a bb no problem.

Grand Bois 04-01-14 08:11 AM

I like it, whatever it is.

Tracy94 04-01-14 09:41 AM

Yes I like it too. Ok sure when I get the cash I'm gonna get it then post loads of pics hahah

zukahn1 04-01-14 11:24 AM

I'm pretty sure the seller means standard english/iso bb 68mm with 24tpi. This frame is definetely not nottingham and is too new to have British/whitworth standards.

Tracy94 04-01-14 01:00 PM

By to new how new would you say ?

zukahn1 04-01-14 01:12 PM

Looks to be late 70's or 80's.

Tracy94 04-01-14 02:31 PM

Ok thanks for that

The Golden Boy 04-01-14 02:44 PM

Tracy-

What size bike do you ride? The other bikes you've posted about seem smaller.

Tracy94 04-01-14 03:03 PM

Yes the bikes I have posted are about 55cm thats the same size I ride now and it is too small im 6ft and need about a 58cm thats the size of that frame.
