Shogun Project
8 Attachment(s)
I bought this frame a couple of years ago. It was rough (understatement). It had been repainted at least once, and that was flaking off in chunks. I didn't have enough bike cash to do a proper repaint, so I rattle-canned the frame and hung it in the rafters. It looks like I may get around to finishing it the summer though. I don't know the model, but since it has two rack/fender mounts on the dropouts, I believe it to be a sport-touring bike. The serial# is stamped on the lower end of the seat tube - S903144. The stem is a cheapo model that I am using while I try different handlebars. It will end up with an SR stem, and Suntour deraillers and barcons. Anyway here it is.
As bought, with wheels etc. added. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=374444 Now http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=374436http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=374437http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=374438http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=374439http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=374440http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=374441http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=374442 |

I forgot to mention this in my original post. I put 27" wheels on the bike, and there is very little clearance for fenders, so I am guessing that it was built for 700C wheels. Anyone know?

dweenk,
Thanks for the confirmation, I was guessing Sunshine/Sunshin. I have some sets as well. Love the bullet hole look of these hubs. 26.8 SP could indicate a quality tubing set if it runs through out the frame. The Univega I have uses Tange #2 with that size seat post. I can't say for certain but my opinion, it came with 700 wheels. |
Hard to tell from the pics, but it appears to be a mid-level touring model. I'm guessing Tange #5 tubing, which would be chromoly, unbutted. And perhaps hi-ten fork and stays. Most Shoguns from the 1980s came with 27" wheels.

In defense of those painting with a "rattle can", if you take the time and finish the topcoat with a good polish you will have a quality repaint. Rarely is the frame paint without needing a little extra attention. Painting bike frames is not as easy a task as one would think. Good job and nice bike!
