chromed Bianchi

There's a fully chromed celeste Bianchi about 1988 for sale on craigs list.Does it being fully chromed make it automatically high end? What would the frame be worth in good shape-ballpark.

Ususally only the upperend bikes got a chrome coating under the paint, like the Super Leggera, Giro Mondiale and the X-4s. I would say it depends on the buyer and frame. I'll have to try and check to see if any of the Formula frames were chromed but generally it would be an SL or SLX frame. I would say though that depending on condition $300ish. Pics?

Just as a point of reference, a nice Colnago SLX frame in good (but not perfect) condition with fork and headset, but no bottom bracket, is listed at $749 at a LBS. Its has chromed forks, chormed lugs on the head tube.

So it depends on the market.

I think I have seen that before and it seems like a hot mess to me. There are a lot of things that just don't add up. It is possible this is a European model but I am not sure that would explain everything.

The color looks off, although it may be the lighting.

If this was an '88 model the color of the Bianchi decals is wrong they should be blue with a light blue or red line running through them not white.

The huge Bianchi signature nor the Campagnolo decals would not be on a bike of this vintage.

Whether this is a repaint or simply redecalled I can't say. Nothing in the ad states it is repainted nor chromed for that matter (unless I missed it).

I don't see where the seller gives the year of '88 but.... while an '88 Super Leggera did come with Chorus it had an SL frame not a Formula frame.

The '88 Super Leggera with a chromed SL frame retailed around $1600 ( I did ALOT of moon lighting for mine) and to get 1600 for it today it would have to NIB. If this is a Formula II frame it is likely a good rider but I am not sure it is worth the asking price.

I spoke to the guy and he asked $450 for the fork and frame. He said it was chromed all over.I offered $250 and he said $400 and I declined and I'm glad I did after your last post. Thanks!

How would he know it was chromed all over?

Very very pretty bike but for $1600 it needs to be more than very very pretty.

I think $400 may be OK if it was an SL or SLX but unless he can prove that no way.

just common knowledge, and I suspect you can see chrome peeking through at tiny scratches, and of course places like the BB shell and head tube. But again I don't see in the ad where the seller states it is chromed.
