Fender clearance question - SKS longboard 45
Last year I bought Schwalbe Marathon 32 tires, knowing they may be a tight fit underneath my velo-orange fenders with the shaped edges. It turned out to be to tight and I removed the fenders completely. Now i'm wondering if the plastic SKS longboard fenders are thin enough to free up enough room to squeeze everything in. It's a King of Mercia frame, so I was surprised that I had trouble installing these tires in the first place.

Chances are you can squezz everything just barely with occational chater. SKS low profile fenderss are made for 28-30 max if the specs are correct on the tires. I have found some tires that are 30 run OK with the fenders while a lot of 28's are no gos.

I have founf the SKS Longboards fenders, in 45mm, fit where the VO fenders of the same width do not. The rolled edges of the VO fenders make them closer to 40mm inside to inside vs a true 45mm for the SKS. On the Ritchey touring bike I have ,I could not fit the VO fenders and a 30mm tire. The SKS Longboards fit fine.
Another thing to keep in mind is that while bit heavier, the SKS fender has the quick release front clip. I recently picked up a tree branch while riding one of my SKS fendered bikes on a trail. The fender popped loose and I was able to stop without incident. Popped the fender clips back in, no problems. Had it been a metal fender that was permanately attached, I think I might have crashed. YMMV.

I'm running 27 x 1 1/4 and the P45 SKS fenders. My only problem is fork crown and brake bridge clearance.

I'm not sure how true-to-size the Schwalbe's run, but I've had no problems running 700cc Pasela 32mms under 45mm SKS longboards. The frame was built for 27" wheels, so YMMV.
