Your wire beaded tires will arrive unbent

When your package is shipped by Amazon Fulfillment Services.
_______

So, I ordered two 27x1 Pasela PTs, figuring they'd arrive coiled up in the usual 14" square flat box, and I'd maybe have to do a little bit of bead un-bending when I unboxed them. The usual price of free shipping, I guess.

And this box is what arrives in the mail a week later:

Holy smokes, says I, that is one big ol' box to ship two lousy tires. I open it up and ... hey, waitaminute! One tire?

It's sad so few people know how to properly fold a tire in thirds w/o bending the bead.

I've only ordered folding tires from Amazon, and as expected, those shipped in a small box.

I can't say I'm surprised about your tire, though. For one, the person packing boxes at Amazon probably doesn't know anything about bikes, including that you can roll up a wire-bead tire to make it smaller. And two, I've had my own packaging surprises from Amazon. I ordered an 18" cymbal from Amazon and it was packed loosely in a box. No filler whatsoever. When it arrived at my door, almost half the cymbal was peeking out of the box. It had cut through the cardboard like a big ol' circular saw blade. I was really surprised it wasn't damaged.

That's encouraging. A nice touch.
Why can Amazon get this right and not get a nice art book to me without damaged corners?

It is all up to the professionalism and pride of a job well done by the person who picks and packs your order.

What a coincidence, I got 2 700x35 PTs today. Mine are also unbent but they were in a 14" cubed box folded into a loose figure 8.

But,....... how many trees were they willing to kill for that ginormous box??
I hope they don't send the other tire similarly.....
Maybe you can tell them to at least stick a new frameset with it for "padding"??

I learned years ago from folding band saw blades. Same principle. My last tires from Amazon were folded such - no worries, beads AOK.

I ordered two tires with free shipping and was surprised when my mail carrier brought this HUGE, thin box. She was dying with curiosity to find out what it was. (I like to keep her guessing.)

Ruh-roh.

Look what arrived in the afternoon delivery, less than six hours after the first; night manager took delivery of it about 10 minutes after I left work. I'm seeing two boxes now. Same Hebron, KY return address. Same packaging.

I just don't...
