I had no intention of looking for one of these but the recent threads on Kijiji and craiglist made be do a quick local search,
86 ish Alpine series, low miles, nice shape, $80, couldn't refuse. Trailer material.
6 sp Exage Mountain drivetrain with Sun rims. All the bearings need refreshing but it's certainly bright! And US made of course. I'm happy.

Very happy in a "I've been given a cute puppy" kind of way. It took time to reduce my fleet of unwanted mtn bikes and now I've got 4 or 5 again.
I used to ride an R500 and a T1000, both of which were great purpose built bikes. It's good to have at least one old C-dale in the stable again.

What a great find and all the original yellow "highlights" seem to be in very good shape as well--- not to mention the top tube cable guides. That's a real plus!

Nothing fugly about it at all, it should cleanup well and those older 'Dales are good solid riders. I'd scoop one up in a heart beat, granted the last 3 bicycles I've owned were/are Cannondales. NIce score in my book.

Not as cute as a puppy, but easier to train. Resale value is better, too.

Nah! Beauty is skin-deep. And Cannondales are well-loved. I'd snatched it up in a hearbeat. Great price, it's in nice shape.

I used to have a bike with the exact same component set, year, u-brake and all. The brakes and brake levers can be quite complicated to adjust, otherwise a good groupo.

Funny how all the encouragement is making the bike grow on me and I'm now scheming to implement some modest enhancements. Thanks. Will post in Vintage mtn bikes thread when done.

Stop. You seem to be convinced it's a value.
OK, let's put it this way: "...that thing hit every tree in the fugly forest."
So, send it to me. I'll pay shipping. Problem solved.
