Beat up pink Miele
I recently acquired an older Miele road bike. It's in really rough shape but might clean up nice. It has the Shimano 600 groupset except for the pedals. The chrome fork is rusty but still has a bit of shine in it. I'm curious if this is the better version of the 600 groupset. I've been looking for a Miele for awhile and this one landed in my lap. Oh well. Pink it is. It's actually growing on me.

Better version of 600....they were all quite good. But yours appear to be 6200 series and has an upgrade to a 6400 Tricolor 600 rear derailleur.
Congrats on your find. And pink is the color of victory in Italy. So, embrace it, it's a great color for a wonderful road bike.

What WNG said. Also known as 600 EX (yours being version 2 of the ex line), with a tricolor rd. Does it have indexed shifters? The rd was part of an indexed 7 speed group, and the EX was a 6 speed group.

Yes it does have indexed shifters. I never even checked. What a nice surprise. Thanks for the info. It's going to be a huge job cleaning this one up. The chrome fork is badly rusted and should be re-chromed. I might spring for it considering the rest of the components are pretty good.

The groupset cleaned up nicely and the bearings are all in nice shape. The fork is not. I was considering making this bike my $100 dollar clunker candidate but I'm considering re-chroming the fork. I'm not sure what that would cost but I'm sure it'll put me over. Someone must have used road tar for lube on this bike. I do know it sat outside for 12 years in the elements. That's usually the death of anything metal here in Cascadia.

I like the look of your bike. I think the pink colour with chrome forks wold make for a really beautiful ride. I have a Miele Condor that I rescued from going to the dump or metal salvage. Sounds like you're going to restore and make into a nice bike again. This is what my Miele Condor looks like

Do you know anything about Miele bikes? I trying to find out more about mine and posted here and in Classic and Vintage. So far I haven't had any replies to my post. I'd be interested in seeing finished product pictures when you are done.

I only know the basic Miele history from Wikipedia and what I've managed to glean from here. I saw your Condor on the appraisal thread, very nice. I have no idea what model mine is. I wish it was in the same condition as the one Bikes and Jeeps posted above. I'm looking for info on what it would cost to re-chrome the fork. I should be starting reassembly this weekend and will post more pics.

For re-chroming info local motorcycle guys might be able to point you in the right direction. For now I would try an oxalic acid soak and a lot of polish, it should look decent from a few feet away. I have a wonderful orange Miele Latina Road issue and it's one of my favourite bikes.

This may sound sacrilegious but a possibly cheaper alternative to rechroming is chrome paint. They've improved quite a bit and come down in price.
Environmental regulations have made chroming very expensive down in the USA, and many shops no longer offer the service.

That's the same frame as mine. I found out it's a Miele Beta model in "fading pink". I'll check out the chrome paint.

Finished for now
I managed to barnstorm the Beta and get it back together today. It's still scruffy but not derelict looking. It's a little tutti-frutti with the orange bar wrap and green cables. I found a couple of matching Bontrager bottle cages that tied it all together. The RD is shifting effortlessly between gears. @WNG was right about the RD being upgraded to a 6400 tri color. The rear shifter is indexed but the front is still friction which id cool by me, and Eddy Merckx
. I went way over the $100 dollar mark with new Shimano dual use pedals and a set of Specialized 700 x 25 road tires. I went with plain black because of all the other colors. @MielleCondor72 I may paint and re-chrome one day, but am going to ride it and see if it loves me first. If it would just stop raining today

The color choices seem to work, it looks fantastic, and I bet it rides fantastic as well. Friction downtube for the front derailleur is normal, there wasn't ever an indexed offering for the left down tube shifter. The 6400 tricolor left shifter is friction, with a helper spring.

Hey Bledfor Days,
Still getting used to moving around on the forum - so sorry I haven't replied sooner. I echo what others have said. I love the way your Miele turned out. That faded pink colour scheme on the frame looks great. I also would love to find a bike similar to yours. I really like that colour on your bike. I recently saw another Miele Condor like mine with a a reverse colour scheme. Where my frame is white this one was pink and the head tube and forks were white - my head tube and forks are red.
Since I started riding my Miele Condor I've been seeing more Mieles on the road and trails. I like the fact that I riding a piece of Canadian history.... Its a great bike to ride, quite quick and responsive.
