My three frames are stickered 531c, forks 531. Factory specs I've seen say 531c, FWIW.

replace the frame with a De rosa, colnago, pinarello or anything along those lines :)

Nice to know there's another out there with the Triumph badge. I was beginning to wonder if it was just a random sticker job on mine.
The tubing stickers must be replacements….at the very least I can now see that the fork was resprayed. They sprayed over the dropouts and its flaking off on the clamp area. As expected its chromed underneath. There's no reason to think the stays weren't sprayed at the same time. So there's my answer i guess…. its only partially my fault its ugly ;-) I'll swap around saddle, bar tape and brake cables and at the very least finish the season on it this way. If there's a respray in its future it would be a professional job and not until the winter. |
on the subject of the brake cable housing… I sorta like the color of the Dura-Ace shifter cable housing that's on there…its not offensive. Can I get brake cable housing to match the Dura-Ace shifter housing?
|
Paint it, it looks like a damaged frame that's been touched up. Any color is fine.
Get rid of the strange, puffy flesh colored bar tape. What is that, a lower intestine? You asked.:p |

I made some changes and I think its looking much better. It rides like a freakin champ.
I've got that semi-ugly Avocet Touring saddle on there because its just so comfortable. I've got a nice black Belt Fujita I'll try out out there that will likely look much better, but right now this bike is seeing action 5 days a week so I'm more concerned with comfort over looks if it comes down to saddle choice. The Belt Fujita is comfy no doubt but it aint no Avocet. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...1&d=1403026404 Boy, the lens window on my iPhone case must be all scratched up....these pics look like doody. |
Must have been a popular thing in some circles. This is what my Trek 610 looked like when I purchased it.

Put a bird on it!
|
I think that's a good looking bike as is. Maybe different tape?
|
Its a decent looking bike now.... You guys had decent suggestions to make it look better. Now it does.
Also so i could put a bird on it |

Skip the bird. Everyone does birds now. What you want is some glue and glitter.
...or cat stickers. |
Cat stickers is good.
Honestly i am having a real time deciding whether or not to paint. The existing paint is far from nice. Theres some really ugly gouges and scratches and the whole underside of the bike is pockmarked from stones kicking up. Not to mention some PO painted the fork and stays this stupid dark blue and put incorrect replacement tubing stickers on the bike. In my mind if i painted it id get a second set of bottle bosses put on and a set of pump pegs. On the other hand i feel bad painting a bike where the paint isn't absolutely wrecked. And what's left of this fade is cool in an 80s sorta way. On the other hand i dont look at the paint when I'm riding it and I'm not sure i care if its ugly. I mean i already took a caveman tool to its chainstays. |
You have to have at least one ugly bike. At least I do.
|
if you arent sure do nothing until you are. Or just do the bird thing.

As much as I'm a fan of cushy bar tape- there was something about the first pic that looked too "poofy" about the tape (again, I'm used to it- but it still stood out to me). The black/black tape and bars go well with the color scheme. I also really like the Avocet Touring saddles- I think the only difference between the I and II is the rails- there's a really slight weight advantage for the II- otherwise the padding/support is the same. I put a tan Avocet Touring II on my Trek 720. Another saddle I really like is the San Marco touring- they're not too common- my only problem with those is that there's no bag loops on the back of the saddle. |
Tan Avocet you say? Very cool. I've actually considered buying a ripped up one and attempting to recover it. I'll keep an eye out for a San Marco touring... sounds interesting.
The thought just occur'd to me that I could just repaint the stays and fork. Some bonehead already did and it looks ****ty....it can't be much worse if I do. |
