Posting this for someone not on the forum. All I know are these 3 pics and that it was his uncles "from the 70's" Thanks

has experienced a head on collision at some point which deformed the top tube.
repair cost likely as not not worth the candle. |
Must have been a pretty hefty crash. Lower head tube lug severed as well.
|
Looks Italian. Maybe Atala. But that frame is toast.
|
+1 most likely an Atala but the frame is toast. Just ouch I doubt the rider walked away from the crash.
|
Yes he understands its toast-ness His post on the FB NYC Fixed group is thus: "Sup yall, been trying for years to figure out what frame this is... Got it from my uncle whose had it since the 70s. She Snapped on a taxi a year ago :("
I think he just wants to *know.* RIP I also thought Italian or Japanese from the minimal curved lugs. sloping fork crown. pierced front lug noteworthy. seatstays to seat lug.. ordinary. BB lug is.. unusual. headset (original?) is ordinary. I will try to get any dropout markings from the owner. |
more and more looks awkwardly Japanese to me. Lugs trying to look elegant but not really, for example.
|
Those were my pics. I posted them on the FGNYC page. The crash was pretty tame. Taxi dead stopped in no traffic to drop off a fair in the middle of the street and I ran into him. Didn't even leave my seat. I was just looking for a little information. Over the years, Not a single bike shop I ever went to could figure out the frame. The Frames pretty special to my family. My uncle snatched it from a looted bike shop during the 77' NYC blackout. I plan to make a shrine in the living room for her.
