campy spindles
 

So I'm throwing an old B.B. together to get my Rossin Ghibli rolling. Italian thread cups for my Campy Croce crankset. I have Croce *****d cups (as shown in the Campagnolo catalog) but I have 2 different types of 70ss spindles? The races are wider on one than the other. I know non-*****d cups (Chorus, C-Record) have thinner cup walls so are these spindle specific to those groups? I've never seen spindles listed with race width? I have read many times Chorus, Croce and C-record spindles are all interchangeable?

According to Sutherlands, the spindle you need will be 111mm long, with dimensions of 30-51-30mm (the 51mm is from outer edge to outer edge of the bearing surfaces). These could be marked either 70-SS or 70-SS A. Why Campy didn't come up with unique markings for each type I don't know...

This should take the thick *****d spindles. The wider center section spindles are for the thin, non-*****d cups.

And why BF thinks ri fled is a bad word, I don't know :)

The bottom brackets are interchangeable but not the spindles. C-record Bottom brackets had alloy cups and 3/16" bearings, these cups are *****d. I don't know what BB Cd'A used but chorus should be steel thin un*****d cups, i think. Photos of what you have should help. What you can do is put the bearings and spindle together and measure the width with calipers to make sure it is 70mm from inner flange of fixed cup to lock-ring. I may have a spare C-record 3/16" spindle, you can identify them as there is a lip at the edge of the bearing race.
