Schwinn Twinn Crank Problem

1 Attachment(s)
Greetings all,

I picked up an older 1967 Schwinn Twinn Tandem I have been working on restoring to make it rideable again. I ran into a problem with the rear crank. The pedal on the right side was cross threaded in the crank. I was able to get the peddle off but not sure what my options are for fixing/replacing the crank.

There are a couple on fleabay but they are pushing 75-100 each. Does anyone know if a crank from an old Huffy tandem could be used? Would a crank off a different Schwinn model fit?

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Good news. If there is enough metal remaining, your bike shop can run a tap through and fix the threads. If there isn't, there is a helix you can put in. You would bore out the hole and tap a larger thread. Screw the helix in. The inside of the helix has a standard pedal thread.

Thanks for the fast reply. Good to know there is still hope.

And yes, that is a standard size crank so any one piece crank will fit. The Schwinn ones are better looking, though.
You have a Huffy tandem, too? I've got a huffy and a Schwinn.

I don't have a huffy, just the schwinn. I saw a crank for a huffy tandem for sale that was much cheaper than the schwinn tandem crank and wasn't sure if it would work on a schwinn or not. Again thanks for all the help.

I don't think it even has to be for a tandem. The gears are removable, you swap those out. That's the semi unique tandem bit.

Got the peddle threads all straightened out and took its maiden voyage to the local DQ tonight. Thanks again for the advice and info.
