mix 'n match- shimano 600 w. ultegra 6500 brakes?

Trying to navigate the myarid of 600 to ultegra-

Have shimano 600 tricolor BL-6400 SLR enabled non-aero levers want to put them with double pivot BR-6500 brakes.

will this work or will it be all mushy? Its like these levers are right on the cusp. as some 6400 brakes are single pivot.

These are the same as mine and its almost like the 6403's but just non-aero and with a tricolor sticker. (6400 is stamped into the lever) SLR sticker on side.

BR-6500

No problems. 600 dual pivot calipers soon followed in this series.

I think the big issue is using non-SLR levers with SLR brakes.

I was using non-SLR old Suntour Superbe levers and 6400 dual pivot in the front and single in the rear-

The return spring on the brake wasn't enough to pull the cable back hard enough to pull the lever to the full open position. I put on 6400 levers and magic happened.

Your levers are independently sprung- you should have no problems.

Works fine, I am doing it. 6500 brakes and older 105 SLR levers. I also have a bike with Dia Compe aero levers (no return spring) and 6400 dual pivot brakes. That works fine too.

So don't need "super SLR" with duel pivot?
