Looking for a replacement left crank arm with this logo. Crank I have is a Sugino No 5 FE-WB from 1982 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393631http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393632http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393633 Would be VERY MUCH appreciated if someone can do a search with me to help me find these crank arms. Will buy a crank arm set if needed (within reason) to match the one I have. And I think it unlikely someone here will have a set they want to break up. If you specify the length (usually stamped on the arm) I'll look in our orphans at the co-op on Saturday. Don't get your hopes up. It's pretty rare you come up with one that matches exactly in terms of manufacture. |
^ his is 170mm, 3a.
i would just pick up a sugino 170mm left arm on ebay for $20 delivered. or ask in the "iso" thread. better yet, i would go down to my lbs/co-op and spend $20 on a used but better looking crankset (with dust caps). |
Of course the best solution is to replace the crank arm.
But I wonder if it couldn't be saved. If you filed the flats flat again, and then bevelled the inner edges so the arm wouldn't bottom against the spindle, the fit could be OK again. The arm will go a bit further in, so probably you'd need a thin flange washer under the nut. I've never tried it, but if you know how to use a file, it might work. |

As stated previously, I'm sure bedding compound would work once, if you were willing to cut the thing off with a grinder next time you wanted to service the bearings, or in the case of the non drive arm, leave it attached to the spindle and remove the adjustable cup to service. Seems like a lot of work for a not so special crank set. |

.
...I checked today, and we have no 170 mm cranks at all, single arms or sets. Sorry. |
I've gone ahead to try & find a crank arm to match the crank I have for my No 5 FE-WB. It doesn't have to say "Sugino" on it, but it would look nicer if i can find one that does.
Have made one discovery - from the Sugino Catalog I have, it looks as if they used the same arm on BOTH the No. 6 FE-RB & No. 66 FE-TR. If this information is correct, I could be one step closer to broadening my search. Could someone please verify if this information is correct as the catalog I have only shows the right side & not the left??? Here is the catalog I have - Copy & put into your browser bar. http://www.equusbicycle.com/bike/sug...hure56%202.pdf |

Is this the culprit & is there enough material still here to work with to try a cheap fix?? http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393167http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393168http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393169http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393170http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393171http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393172http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393173http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=393174 Do not want to pay for & receive the wrong crank arm style. After re-reading this thread again & seeing the advice - does my crank have a JIS or an ISO interface??
Do not want to pay for & receive the wrong crank arm style. How do I tell which is which?? The number of styles of ISO-taper Sugino cranks was quite small, limited to Mighty arms and Sugino75 models. Your bb spindle is nutted as well, and I've not seen an ISO bb with nutted spindle. |

Sugino MS 170mm Silver Left LP Arm | eBay I can't really tell from the picture but would this be anything similar looking to what I have??? (Size interface is JIS & length is 170mm) |
With a budget of $26, you could buy a complete Sugino crankset that would be equal to or better than what you have:
Sugino Crank 50 40 170mm | eBay Sugino Cranks and Chainrings 170mm | eBay And those were just two out of many completed auctions I found when searching for "sugino 170". |
Damn it! This was the one I needed & matched mine. Looked all over for this, now it's gone!

I have a hard time with left arms failing. I can look tonight as I have several boxes (small boxes) of lefts.
