Peugeot bottom bracket question

I have a Peugeot UO-14, that I think is an '83 based on the catalog. How can I tell if the bottom bracket is French thread or Swiss thread? I've never pulled a BB before. Can someone point me to a source for tools?

Often, the thread type is indicated on the cup, either explicitly stamped (e.g. "35 x 1") or with some other arcane marking. Look for a "G" ("gauche") or "L" on the fixed cup to indicate a left-handed Swiss thread fixed cup. Pictures of the cups, especially the fixed cup could help if more arcane markings are involved and would also help identify specific tools for your bottom bracket.

As a practical matter, however, it is seldom necessary to remove the fixed cup unless it is damaged to the point of needing replacement. Just clean it in place and re-pack the bottom bracket with fresh grease and new balls.
