Frame rust.
 

Its usually about 95 degrees here in texas, and my roomate finds it completely necessary to blast the A.C within our home. The problem is every once in a while the ac will turn off, and THEN COMES THE CONDENSATION. SO MUCH CONDENSATION. how can i keep my bikes from get rust from condensation on them? a blanket a tarp anything? keeping the bikes inside is my only option at the moment. When i first got my steel trek it was just so beautiful and spotless and now there is some very noticeable surface rust.

I live in a similar climate. A really regular cleaning regime - lots of waxing and polishing could help but condensation is really difficult to control. I just found rust on one of my frames and nearly had heart failure.

Used to spray LPS 3 (the thick stuff) inside frame tubes and swab the seat & head tubes. Used the plastic straw through the vent holes and turned the frame to insure coverage. Drained out messy and took a day to dry. To remove external surface rust try Evapo Rust, available at Advance Auto Parts and probably others. The stuff is non toxic, biodegradable, won't harm paint or plastics and works great! For small spots just saturate a piece of blue paper shop towel and wrap it onto the frame tube with clear plastic wrap. Stuff needs to stay wet to work. Instructions say to submerge the rusty part, which works well if it is a small enough part.

I was born and raised on Florida's east coast where it was hot and humid, and bike frames as well as automobile bodies rotted from rust.

Seven years ago (has it really been that long?) I bought a custom Reynolds 953 polished stainless steel frame. I live a mile from the Pacific Ocean and ride it in all kinds of weather, and although I keep it clean, I don't use wax, frame saver, or any other rust prevention measures. It still looks brand new without any hint of staining or corrosion.

There are now five stainless steel tubesets on the market including Reynolds 953, Reynolds 931, Reynolds 921, Columbus XCr, and KVA MS3.

I'm a believer.
